Our first "Try Gymnastics" sessions for beginner gymnasts will be at the East Peckham Community Centre over the Easter break.
SE Regional Grades and Competition 10th March 2012
Well done to all the Weald girls who passed their grades at the recent South East Women’s Artistic Grades competition. Illona and Poppy participated in Grade 14, commencing on range and conditioning and worked hard to achieve scores of 11.65 and 11.25 respectively. Vault followed with Illona receiving a score of 11.65 and Poppy scoring 11.85. Applying strength and techniques the girls continued the competition with bars, achieving scores of 10.8 and 10.75. Great beam routines followed with no falls giving the girls 11.6 and 11.35. Finishing on floor both girls did well to remember their routines and perform them with stretch and poise. Aimee their coach was delighted with their work and both Illona and Poppy passed with distinction.
The following round saw Erin and Fionna competing in Grade 12. Starting on vault both girls performed very well with Erin scoring 11.75 and Fionna 11.80. Moving on to bars Erin scored 9.20 and Fionna 10.50 (4th highest in her age group). The beam routines were elegantly performed with Erin achieving 10.35 and Fionna receiving 9.75. The final piece was floor and both girls competently completed new routines with style and grace. The scores were Erin 11.25 and Fionna 10.95. Overall Erin achieved 42.55 and Fionna with a score of 43.00 took the bronze medal in her age group. The final round saw Christina in Grade 11 and Courtney and Isla in Grade 10. All three girls performed excellent vaults achieving high scores of 12.40, 12.35 and 11.85 respectively. They worked hard on bars with Christina receiving 10.80, as did Isla (5th highest in her age group) and Courtney 9.25. Beam routines provided scores of 10.55, 10.40 and 9.75. On floor Christina performed a new routine achieving 9.45, with Courtney scoring 10.95 and Isla 10.05. Coach Fiona was particularly pleased with the effort and positive attitude by the girls. Overall scores were Christina 43.20, Courtney 42.95 and Isla 42.45.
